What the module covered
This module combined software engineering theory with a group project developed over three increments. We worked with user stories, MoSCoW prioritisation, sprint planning, UML, testing, and regular supervisor feedback.
Our team built a JavaFX advertising auction dashboard that imported campaign logs, calculated metrics, and let users explore them through filters and charts. My work included setting up the Maven project and MVC structure, implementing user-management features and line-chart controls, and helping integrate and test the team’s features. I also maintained class diagrams and burndown charts, and led the second sprint.
What I took from it
The project showed how much work sits between individually implemented features and a usable shared application. Alongside my own features, I spent time helping with integration, setting up tests, and responding to feedback.
Our final report also identified a useful lesson: meeting the functional requirements did not automatically make the dashboard easy to use. Leaving time to polish the main workflows mattered as much as adding optional features.
