COMP1216: Software Modelling and Design
First Year, 2023/24 · Semester 2
Overall mark 83%
Requirements analysis, UML, and formal modelling with Event-B, applied to a dental appointment system.
SKILLS Software Modelling · Requirements Gathering · Formal Methods
TECHNOLOGIES UML · Event-B · LaTeX
What the module covered
This module covered requirements gathering and software modelling, using UML to describe a system’s structure and behaviour and Event-B to express its state, constraints, and transitions formally.
Our group coursework modelled an NHS dental appointment system. I contributed to the UML activity diagram and produced the state-machine diagram. For the subsequent Event-B submission, I handled the LaTeX report and merged the group’s work into a combined model and document.
What I took from it
UML-style diagrams have been especially useful for planning and documenting my projects. Even without following every notation rule, they help me explain how a system fits together and break an ambitious project into smaller, manageable components.
